The rational design and synthesis of metal-organic supramolecular architectures such as discrete metal-organic coordination cages (MOCCs), metal-organic nanotubes (MONT) have attracted much attention of chemists due to their interesting structural topologies and potential applications.For the construction of MOCC, most of the organic ligands used in the past are limited to rigid angular carboxylate (limited to rigid 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid and its derivitives) and N-containing ligand as well as biscatecholate ligands with appropriate chelating ability.The MOCCs constructed from flexible carboxylate ligand are quite rare.However, for the construction of MONT,most of reported MONTs are interpenetrating nanotubes, and the interpenetration has limited their application.By careful design and synthesis, a series of metal-organic coordination cages constructed of flexible dicarboxylate ligands and non-interpenetrating metal-organic nanotubes with large channels have been assembled and characterized.
