The tourism industry in Melaka holds huge potential for the state as it is popular for its well preserved culture and heritage.As far as the authors have knowledge on,there have been no prior research to discover what drives tourists to visit Melaka.A structured questionnaire is designed of which 610 are distributed in two locations; Melaka Tengah the tourist hot spot and Kuala Lumpur International Airport.After screening and treatment,570 of the questionnaires are valid for the analysis.The results of the analysis indicate that gaining knowledge and natural resources are the main push and pull factors respectively that contribute in motivating tourists to visit Melaka.This study provides information and sheds new light unto the tourism industry in Melaka.The tourism factor has gained considerable importance both globally and nationally as a source of economic growth and employment.Therefore,the findings of this research indirectly impacts the Malaysian government to a significant degree to draw policies eradicating spatial socioeconomic inequality in Malaysia.
