Breast cancer (BC) remains the most common cause of cancer death among women in Europe. In 2006, the age standardized incidence rates of BC were 26 and 25.8 per 100,000 women in Europe and Lithuania.About half of BC cases can be explained by known risk factors related to the reproductive life, inheritance, socioeconomic status, and use of alcohol. The relationship between smoking (active and passive) and BC remains controversial.
