In this study,we developed a method of estimating the cerebral metabolic rate of glucose (CMRglc) using one sample of the input function in cerebral 18F-Fluoro-deoxigen-glucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET).In our method, the relative CMRglc (i.e.the CMRglc relative to a manually selected reference region,in our study we have chosen the whole gray matter as the reference region) is firstly estimated.Using the parameters of the whole gray matter obtained in the step of estimating the relative CMRglc, the absolute CMRglc can be obtained with one sample on the input function. From the relative CMRglc of ROIs and the absolute CMRglc of the reference region (the gray matter),the absolute CMRglc of the ROIs can be obtained immediately. The Patlak method is used to check our method with the plasma time activity curve as the standard input function. Our method showed that one blood sample is enough to get the CMRglc in cerebral 18F-FDG PET study.
