Near fully dense single-phase bulk (Crl-xVx)2A1C (x =0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0) solid solutions were successfully fabricated by in-situ hot-pressing method using Cr, V, A1 and C powders as raw materials.A possible synthesis mechanism was proposed to explain the evolution of (Crl-xVx)2AlC solid solutions.The lattice parameters, microstructure and mechanical properties of (Crl-xVx)2A1C solid solutions were also investigated.The results indicate that and the plate-like grains of as-prepared (Cr1-xVx)2AlC solid solutions change from equiaxed to elongated and the lattice parameters increase with the gradual substitution of Cr by V.The dependence of the mechanical properties on V content is a single-peak type.The bulk (Cr0.5V0.5)2AlC solid solution possess the best mechanical performance and its Vickers hardness, flexural strength and fracture toughness reach the maximum values of 5.18 GPa, 402 MPa, 5.91 MPa·m1/2, respectively, due to solution strengthening.The energy-consuming mechanisms would contribute to high toughness and ductility.
