Prosody studies the melody and rhythm of human speech and hence is an indispensible element in phonetic perception and language acquisition.Rhythmically speaking,Chinese is syllabletimed whereas English is stress-timed.As prosodic patterns are generally language-specific,the inter-language differences are apt to hinder L2 prosodic acquisition.
