  Biological systems are the most complex systems we know,in terms of structure,dynamics and function.In order to understand and model such systems,it is useful to describe this complexity at different levels,both in time and space.Thus,a discussion on inter-scale interactions apply equally well to temporal as to sPatial scales.In fact,often the temporal and spatial scales are correlated,so that spatially "microscopic" systems and structures are characterised by a "microscopic" time scale.Similarly,larger systems are typically characterised by longer time scales (slower motions).
