The solar wind can be categorized into three types based on its "freeze-in" temperature(T_f) in the coronal source:low T_f wind mostly from coronal holes,high T_f wind mostly from regions outside of coronal holes,including streamers(helmet streamer and pseudostreamer),active regions,etc.,and transient interplanetary coronal mass ejections(ICMEs) usually possessing the hottest T_f.The global distribution of these three types of wind has been investigated by examining the most effective T_f indicator,the O7+/O6+ratio,as measured by the Solar Wind Ion Composition Spectrometer on board the Advanced Composition Explorer(ACE) during 1998-2008 by Zhao et al.
