The atmospheric polluting character of nitrogen oxides,NO among them,is a well-known fact,their primary source being automobile exhausts.On the other hand,dinitrogen oxide N2O(also called nitrous oxide) is not considered a pollutant,yet it can dissociate in the troposphere by UV photodissociation producing NO,which has an estimated residence time of several years in the upper atmosphere.
