In recent decades, our country’s archaeological community has successively released a series of unearthed materials that are older than the inscriptions of the Yin Ruins and related to the origins of Chinese characters. These materials mainly refer to the portrayals or painted symbols of the late primitive society and the early history of pottery in the early history of the society, as well as a small number of symbols inscribed on the oracle bone, jade stone, etc. Symbols of ancient times throughout the country, they provide a new basis for explaining the origin of Chinese characters. Taking the ancient symbols unearthed in the Yangtze River valley, the Huaihe River valley and the Yellow River valley as an example, this paper examines the ancient Chinese characters relics earlier than the Yin Dynasty and makes a preliminary study of the formation of the ancient Chinese character system. The author believes that the origin and evolution of Chinese characters are not A simple main line, and the early formation of the Chinese system should be in the Central Plains region of the Yellow River.
