The enhanced growth and yield performance of grafted plants is often attributed to the improved root characteristics as a result of grafting with vigorous rootstocks. However, limited information is available regarding nutrient uptake in relation to root modification of grafted tomato plants under field conditions. This field study examined N accumulation, N uptake efficiency, and distribution of root length density of grafted and non-grafted tomato Florida 47 under different N fertilization rates (56, 112, 168, 224, 280, and 336 kg/ha) in sandy soils in Live Oak, FL (USA) during the 2010 and 2011 spring seasons.
