This paper examines the foreign policy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia towards the Yemen war and the Saudi-led coalition that exploded in 2015 in Yemen with several Arab countries,and how Saudi Arabia dealt with this event.The reactions of Saudi Arabia towards the crises of the Yemen civil war seems contradictory.Scholars and policy analysts moved quickly to examine the Yemen war as a religious struggle and a consequence of Saudi Iranian rivalry in the region.Nevertheless,these conventional explanations fail to explain the Saudi motive behind launching a large-scale operation in Yemen,its severely weakened and politically divided neighbor.This paper offers an alternative explanation for the unexpected Saudi violence toward Yemen.It argues that this intervention is driven by a non-material need.Saudi governance aims to declare the Kingdoms status as a regional power in the Middle East.Several research questions are raised in this thesis;therefore,this study attempts to provide answers on how a conservative status like the Kingdom serves its objectives in a revolutionary environment,and why Saudi Arabia applies these apparent contradictory measures in dealing with the Yemen war.This study uses Neoclassical Realist approach to study the foreign policy behavior of Saudi Arabia towards the Yemen war,and how Saudi Arabia dealt with the threats unleashed by the Yemen war.Lastly,the conclusion of this thesis tests the hypotheses and offers a comprehensive understating of the Saudi reaction towards the Yemen civil war from a Neoclassical Realist perspective.
