Nurses are confronted with many stressors which may not present in other occupations,commitment to nursing profession becomes increasingly important research topic sincethe individuals are unable to depend on a single organization for their entire career pathbecause of mergers, downsizing, layoffs and insecurity. In this study, the main objective isto investigate the relationship between nurses’job stress and career commitment under themoderating effect of supervisory support. The previous studies showed that nurses workstress has an influence on nurses’ career commitment but less studies showed the role ofsupervisory support as a moderating factor on this relationship and in order to examinethis relationship we used a self-administered questionnaire consisted of three parts, thefirst part included the demographic questions, the second included the instruments whichmeasure the job stress, career commitment and the supervisor support, and the last partincluded two questions asking about the perceived factors of job stress and careercommitment, the total sample size was (271) nurses, the questionniare was translated intoArabic and after the pilot study it was distributed on (251) nurses in different units andwards at two public hospitals, RAFIDIAPublic Hospital and AL-WATANI Public Hospital,in the north of West-bank. Validity and reliabilty were done, Statistical analysis of the datawas conducted including t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson Correlationsregression analysis was also performed. The main findings of the study revealed that thereis a negative correlational relationship between job stress and career commitment as wellwith supervisory support and a positive correlational relationship between careercommitment and supervisory support. Regression findings were presented. As for the thirdpart; the greatest perceived source of stress appears to be workload related to nursingshortage and the greatest percieved factor which decrease career commitment appears tobe the job stress itself. The findings were discussed and recommendations for furtherresearch were also addressed.
