Grid technology root in the distributed supercomputing I-WAY project which sponsored by U.S. government in the 90s of 20th century. The grid integrates all kinds of computing ang information service resources which located in different places, different companies and different nodes, for instance, computing capability, storage capacity and information service ability into one single( virtual ) system. “Platform of e-Grid Computing Application in Shnaghai High Education Grid (abbreviated to PGCA in SHEG)” is a grid computing environment based on OGSI specification and grid core middleware, which provides a platform for computing and resources sharing for the people in Shanghai high institue who need the resources to solve the problems such as high performace parallel computing. With this patform researchers can use more computing resources to perform various kinds of large scale of parallel computing, thus promoting the resolving of the major technological problem and driving the development and innovation of base theory reaserch. This paper gives an effective design and implementation of the grid job management system according to the characteristic of the PGCA in SHEG. It realized the optimization on using grid resources and provided better grid resources sharing for grid users.The work mainly includes: ①The design and realization of a grid portal based on user and job management,which is the bridge between grid users and grid system, offers an effective interface for grid users submitting grid jobs. It also defines user job specification document( UJSD ) describes job information interactive and can be automatically generated according to the information of job resources and properties. ②Aiming at characteristic of the PGCA and the characteristic of grid resources, a global queue scheduling pool model is proposed. The preemptive job scheduling strategy based on user job prioripty and resource priority is designed and realized. Jobs are mapped and redirected to the actual resources nodes according to a reasonable order therefore the efficiency of Jobs dispatch policy-making was effectively guaranteed. ③We designed and realized the running of job,monitoring of the job status and service of the download of the job result files. It will submit the job to the right gid resource through the choice of job scheduling according to the job resource request information. It also is responsible for the collection of job status information and doing some scheduling operation and the feedback of job status information and then sends the job result files to the grid portal for user to download. This job management system has been successfully deployed in the PGCA in SHEG,and gotten across the chekup of the specialist group of Shanghai municipal government on Dec. 2005 who acknowledged the system which adopted job scheduling policy based on user job priority and resource priority has achieved advanced international level.
