Micro-programming as a technique for digital computer design is quite common today, but surprisingly appeared in the early 1950s. Microprograms proposed by MV Wilkes are superior to the techniques that existed at that time because of the greater flexibility offered in a particular computer instruction set and the considerable simplification of the control logic. Although some microprograms have been made, this technique has not been widely used until the mid-1960s. The main reason for the gap between the introduction and promotion of this technology is that its benefits are clearly offset by the high prices at which such microprogramming is done. Recently, due to the development of non-destructive read only memory technology
