孔雀豆(Adenanthera pavonina Linn.)属含羞草科。其木材结构细致,材质硬重。心材耐腐,切面平滑光亮,材色鲜美。可供上等家具、枪托及其他美工等用。我国热带地区如海南岛,次生林面积很大,1964年前据海南林业局的统计达六百多万亩,其中低价值者居多。为了改造、提高次生林的质量,1964——1967年我们陆续开展了次生林的改造方法与树种选择的试验研究,后因许多主、客观原因,而中断了研究。但从残存的林木中,发现孔雀豆生长旺盛,林木整齐。14年生的林木,一般树高12米、胸径16厘米左右。优子母生林。这一“苗头”对低价值次生林的改造有一定意义,故作简单介绍,提供参考。
