日本是与中国一衣带水的近邻,明治维新后一跃而为富强的国家。可是,世纪之交的中国百日维新惨遭失败,许许多多爱国志士变法图强的美梦彻底破灭。为寻求救国富强的真理,他们东渡扶桑,日本一时成了中国进步知识分子的荟萃之地。 “男子立身惟一剑,不知事败与功成”。青年陈独秀正是胸怀这一政治抱负,于世纪初的14年间,先后五次来到日本,除进行正常的学业和政治避难外,还积极投入爱国革命运动,他的许多进步革命思想都是这时形成的,而且,其中有的思想甚至影响了他的一生。
