Since the first Confucius Institute in Africa - the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi - was completed in Kenya in December 2005, the Confucius Institute, as the window of Chinese cultural communication, has mushroomed on the land of Africa. There are more and more people learning Chinese in Africa, but the loss of students from Confucius Institutes in Africa is also more serious. Taking the Confucius Classroom at the University of Marche in Ethiopia as an example, this paper makes some observations on the loss of students in the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language in Africa, analyzes the causes of the loss and puts forward some countermeasures so as to provide some suggestions for the researchers of Chinese as a foreign language.
