The part of the Kunlun-Karakorum cut across by the Xinjiang Geotransect can be divided into four terranes. Among them are three main boundary faults. In this papen through the simple introduction about the principal characteristics of the terranes and their boundary faults, we discussed the tectonic evolution of this area. Particularly, we emphasise that the Kangxiwar Fault is a suture zone, which represented the Paleo-Tethys oceanic basin separating the Qiangtang plate from the Tarim plate. After its closure in the end of Triassic, the Kunlun-Karakorum area amalgamated into a unified continent and began their intracontinental orogenic stage.
