英国生产大量的大麦籽粒以满足牲畜饲养和酿造的需要。然而苏格兰的谷类威士忌酿造商还要靠从加拿大进口大量的高淀粉酶大麦(Hayter 等1975)。为取代进口原料,现已在苏格兰作物研究所(SCRI)开展了在当地种植的高淀粉酶品种的选育工作。
The United Kingdom produces large quantities of barley grain to meet the needs of livestock raising and brewing. Yet Scotch whiskey brewers also rely on imports of large amounts of high-amylase barley from Canada (Hayter et al., 1975). To replace imported raw materials, the breeding of locally grown high amylase varieties is now conducted at the Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI).
