Umbelliferae Angelica shikokiana Makino is cultivated in the Oita Prefecture of Japan and serves as a substitute for ginseng for the treatment of hyperlipidemia, inflammation, diabetes and allergic diseases. Once isolated from the root of a coumarin, inhibit the human neutrophil leukotrienes (LTB_4 and LTC_4) biosynthesis. In this paper, four coumarin derivatives isolated from A.shikokiana roots were reported, both of which can affect lipid metabolism of isolated rat adipocytes. The Japanese roots collected from different regions were dried and crushed. The extracts were continuously refluxed by EtOAc, MeOH, and H 2 O respectively. The extracts were concentrated under reduced pressure to give extracts respectively. EtOAc extract can inhibit adrenergic-induced lipolysis in rat adipocytes but does not affect adrenocorticotropic hormone
