Researchers at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine found that HIV infects human immune cells that cause large-scale methylation in human and viral RNA to help viral replication. The study revealed a new mechanism for controlling HIV replication and the interaction between HIV and the body. The results indicate that previous researchers had made a fatal mistake in developing HIV gene-targeted drugs: Targeted at unchanging RNA structures. Relevant results from this study were published on Nature Microbiology on February 22, 2016.
