Geological body is formed in the evolution of the crust, it is a combination of construction and structural deformation. The phenomenon that the fractured geologic body is deformed and displaced along the existing faults under the later tectonic forces or engineering loads is called superimposed fracture, and the formation process is the superimposed fracture. Based on the Mohr-Coulomb theory, this paper discusses the relationship between the development of faults and the superimposition of faults and the tectonic stress field, and quantitatively discusses the “succession of faults” and “the revival of faults” in the study of geological structure. In the course of his study, Professor Cheng Guzhen and his guidance and encouragement hereby express his heartfelt thanks.
