气相色谱仪(GC)对混合物具有高度的分离能力,但一般情况下缺乏对分离后组分的定性能力;而质谱仪(MS)则相反,对混合物的分离无能为力,而对分离后的组分则具有很强的定性能力。近年来已用各种方式将这两种仪器联结在一起,即气相色谱—质谱联用仪(GC-MS)。它能迅速地进行混合物的分离和鉴定。但是一般的色谱—质谱联用仪的灵敏度只能达到数毫微克~1毫微克的检出极限。
