South Africa’s exploration of vanadium reserves ranked first in the world. South Africa exports Vanadium every year worth 100-150 million rand, about half the world’s output of 300 million rand. Vanadium produced in South Africa is mainly exported. There is very little local demand. At least 99% of vanadium is exported abroad, while the United States, West Germany and Japan are the major consumers. Only four companies successfully selected raw materials for vanadium.
