辣椒(Capsicum annuum)于明朝末年(1640年前后)引入我国。海门栽培辣椒的历史从《民国海门县志》(1912~1935)中记述已普遍种植。椒农在长期栽培过程中,于60年代初培育出了色泽好、品质纯、抗逆性强、产量高、适宜出口的海门朝天小辣椒,又称“海门椒”,平均每年种植84.0hm~2,70年代年均种植126.8hm~2,80年代平均每年148.1hm~2。产量由1964年的615kg/hm~2、总产37吨上升到1983年的2910.9kg/hm~2、总产807吨。近几年,单产平均2619.5kg/hm~2,总产每年在百吨上下。
Capsicum annuum was introduced to China in the late Ming Dynasty (around 1640). The history of cultivation of peppers in Haimen has been generally planted in “Haimen County, Republic of China” (1912 ~ 1935).
