This paper argues that the thinking mode represented by “Tao” and “Logos” is the root of the difference between Chinese and Western ideology and culture. “Road ” and “Logos ” are the ultimate truths of the metaphysics in both China and the West and the ultimate truth in representing the world. The key difference lies in the unspeakable nature of the former while the latter is unspoken. Speaking out the truth truthfully leads to the speculative tendencies of thinking, whereas the inability to speak leads to the mystical comprehension of the truth. This has nothing to do with the linguistic form. In ancient China, thinkers who tended to tell the truth have embarked on a philosophical path in the strict sense. Chinese is not an obstacle to thinking of a rational mode of thinking.
