In order to simplify corporate network management, maximize the use of limited IT budgets, and increase operational efficiency, outsourced data services have begun to emerge. Saving costs is a powerful argument for outsourcing data services. The scope of data service outsourcing includes everything from monitoring data links to running remote access applications and monitoring the customer’s network environment. According to Yankee Group’s research on large companies’ wide area networks, a typical enterprise, such as managing a network with a service provider, can save 20% to 60% of its annual operating expenses. Telecommunications companies are taking the lead in providing data services, although data service providers like IBM are also focusing on this area. IBM’s Global Services Division is re-adjusting the prices of its virtual private networks and intranet services, and will use singles for IP customers.
