At present, there are more and more countries adopting the metric system in the world. According to incomplete statistics, there are at least more than 90 countries. Because the imperial system is a non-decimal system, the calculation is complex; the use of inconvenience is very backward compared with the metric system, and it is not suitable for the rapid development of modern science and technology. Therefore, the imperial system is gradually being eliminated. The European Economic Community requires that the entire community must use the metric system before January 1, 1978. If Britain wants to join the common market, it must abandon his imperial system and implement the metric system. This is one of the important conditions. Otherwise, they have no common language in terms of weights and measures, and they cannot carry out economic and technological cooperation. The British government wants to further improve its competitiveness in international trade and adapt to the future development of science and technology. It must catch up with the current world trend in the measurement system. Starting from their own interests, they had to reluctantly set aside large sums of money and made major economic sacrifices. They were determined to shake off the imperial system, and forced them to drastically shift the country’s industries and industries to the metric system.
