今年是世界反法西斯战争胜利60周年,在战后的岁月里,各国出版了大量的有关图书和文章, 但是,这些文字大多出自同盟各国政治家和文人之手,作为当年战争另一面的纳粹将领出来介绍这次战争的书籍却很罕见。反法西斯战争是世界历史上第一次超大规模的现代化作战,因此也是战后几十年各国作战研究的主要对象之一。特别是其中决定性的战役,其研究成果和启示至今并未过时。本书是战后美军作战部门为研究二战决定性战役而专门组织原纳粹重要将领撰写的,这些人作为战役的亲历者,其回忆为弄清战役决策和历史研究提供了不少难得第一手资料。本篇节选自《致命的决定》,系原书第三章。该书英文版1956年在美国出版, 先后六次再版,历来为美军院校必读书。现根据国内商务出版社1981年译本刊出,供军史研究专业工作者和感兴趣的读者参考。因为立场限制和掌握资料的片面,文中部分内容明显是错误的,希望广大读者鉴别。
