Hepatitis E is an important health problem in Asia, Africa and Central America. The success of the Hepatitis E virus (HEV) genomic cloning has made it possible to use recombinant protein technology to generate the HEV antigens required for serological testing. Many of the virus’s major antigens and immunogenic epitopes have a high degree of spatial configuration and thus the complete HEV gene expressed in eukaryotic systems produces an immunological structure that is closer to that of the native viral capsid protein. The authors constructed a recombinant baculovirus 63-2-IV-2 containing the complete HEV open reading frame (ORF) -2 genome of Pakistan HEVSAR-55 strain. The weight
