Statistics show that there are currently more than 22,000 crossroads in the Federal Railways in Germany. There were 371 car-train collisions in 1985. Therefore, the issue of deregulating cross-boundary crossing has been included in the overall goal of transport policy and prioritized. Over the past 10 years, more than 4,000 crosswalks have been canceled at a cost of 400 million marks. Federal Railways plans to completely cancel the level crossings in the future, Hanover - Wurzburg and Mannheim - Stuttgart two new high-speed lines will all adopt the three-dimensional cross, both the fast road section of the existing level crossing will cease to exist. Two-thirds of the federal railroad crossings are on less-than-busy feeder railways. More than one-half of the crossings (about 12,000) are not covered by trans-regional public transport lines. Most of them are crossings where peasants go to work and forest workers go to work. The speed at which trains pass these crossing should not exceed 60km / h. Where the train speed exceeds 80km / h lines, must be installed crossings safety equipment. About half of these crossings use only lights
