Objective To understand the smoking status of medical staff in Jiangsu Province and related knowledge and attitudes and to provide a scientific basis for the development of tobacco control policy. Methods From April to May 2009, 3 035 medical staff of 30 medical and health institutions in 6 cities (counties) of Jiangsu Province were selected to carry out smoking-related questionnaires by random sampling method. Results The smoking rate of medical staff in Jiangsu Province was 20.1%, the current smoking rate was 17.3%, and the average daily smoker’s smoking amount was (12.7 ± 8.8). Medical staff had a score of (32.78 ± 5.95) points on tobacco and disease; 83.3% of the medical staff responded that the employer had complete or partial smoking ban, while only 44.6% of medical staff thought the smoking ban in the unit was well implemented; 70.1 % Of the medical staff support the indoor smoking ban. The main factors influencing the complete banning of indoor smoking in the unit are the smoking status (OR = 2.607, 95% CI = 2.046-3.321), cognitive level (OR = 1.694,95% CI (OR = 1.449, 95% CI = 1.110-1.890; OR disease control = 1.466, 95% CI = 1.106-1.945) .Conclusion The medical staffs in Jiangsu Province Among men, smoking rates are now higher, and there is a high rate of complete banning of indoor smoking in units, and there is still a need to further improve tobacco and disease cognition.
