In the Indonesian trade, Japan accounted for a large proportion. In 1980, 49% of Indonesia’s export volume was exported to Japan, and 32% of its import volume came from Japan. Among the total volume of import and export trade, Japan accounted for The proportion is as high as 43%. Among the ASEAN countries’ foreign trade, although Indonesia is highly dependent on the Japanese market, the example is rather extreme. However, Japan’s share of foreign trade in the other four ASEAN countries is not low. In the ASEAN countries’ foreign trade, the total share of the ASEAN and the United States accounts for more than 40% of the total. Under such circumstances, the ASEAN countries have all along been actively reversing the trend of over-reliance on Japan and developing multi-faceted foreign economic relations. Particularly striking is the trend of ASEAN’s approach to the European Community.
