午后的斜阳,刚好照着布赖恩特公园那条长椅的一头,年轻漂亮的温斯洛太太坐在长椅上,打算休息一会就回家。她逛了几个小时百货商店,把所有那些橱窗都饱览无遗,最后终于开始感到心满意足。她每天下午出门的时候,都尽力显得快活,富有吸引力,一副无忧无虑的样子。这当儿,她懒洋洋地望着一个老头神经质地晃动着脑袋从身边走过,希望自已永远不要失掉此刻的满足感。她觉得,她的生活中只消再有一些小小的改善,她就会永远幸福了。
