在西部民族地区实施民汉双语教育一直是我国建国以来的重要举措。民族地区实施双语教育有利于实现民族团结、国家稳定、民族融合,有利于提高民族教育质量,提高少数民族个体文化素质,增强少数民族生存技能,促进社会流动,发展民族地区经济,缩短民族地区与汉族地区的差别,使民族地区在经济全球化和科技现代化的过程中不输于汉族地区。但是,要实现其战略意义,应在实施民汉双语教育的过程中因地制宜,因材施教,不搞一刀切。国家还要支持培养大批的双语教师和研究编写更多双语教材。
