There are now 6,000 to 7,000 different languages in the world. Some scholars have estimated that about half or more of the languages will disappear by the end of this century. Language carries the historical and cultural heritage of a nation. As a linguist, we must promptly investigate, record, organize and describe endangered languages and leave valuable information about these languages for our descendants. At the same time, we also urge bilingual and even multilingual teaching in conditional areas to endanger endangered Language can survive. In this speech, on the basis of introducing the issue of international endangered languages, I will combine my own research on the local dialect in western Hunan Province to describe the current situation of endangered languages (dialects) in China.
