Africa is still one of the most divided parts of the world as trade globalization and liberalization have led trade to converge in some of the regional integration regions: the continent has a total population of about 640 million, independent countries of no less than 52, Accounting for nearly one-third of the member states of the United Nations; 35 countries have a population of less than 10 million and 15 do not have any access to the sea. This is all the more so because the GDP of the entire sub-Saharan region is only 215 billion U.S. dollars (of which only the Republic of South Africa accounts for 65 billion U.S. dollars), which is comparable to that of South Korea.
