This article describes a large closed system of freeze-dried pasture. The system uses the principle of absorption and drying, relying on the pressure difference between the grass and silica gel desiccant drying. In a system at a temperature of about -10 ° C, the ice in its sample was sublimated into steam, which was absorbed by the silica gel in a blower-agitated recycle stream. Fresh grass samples (up to 50 kg each) equal the weight of the silica gel. This system is simple in structure and low in cost. Reducing the moisture content of pasture from 90% to 10% takes about 8 days. Using this system, drying tests were conducted on 24 different temperate and tropical species, leguminous species or varieties sampled at different maturities. Freeze-dried, quick-frozen forages with this method can reduce the physical and chemical changes of pasture when harvesting and preparing for evaluation, and provide adequate raw materials for animal feeding research and chemical analysis.
