This paper investigates a viscous diffusion equation which includes the Sobolev-Galpern equation and the GBBM equation as special cases. Under some structural conditions, we discuss the existence and uniqueness of its generalized solution by using the eigen-function method and the regularizing technique based on elliptic operator, respectively.
