The persistent economic recession in the United States and Europe, combined with deteriorating unemployment, excess capacity and low ticket prices, caused a loss of 11.5 billion U.S. dollars to IATA member companies over the three years from 1990 to 1992. The worst losses in air transport history, which lasted three years, included $ 4.8 billion in 1992 losses.
