第二次世界大战中日本画卷进了日本主义国粹思潮漩涡。随着战败带来对国粹思潮的彻底非议,日本画几乎被置于否定。这时,一度受军方压抑的社会,一切视野急剧地解放,欧美现代思潮有如怒涛般地涌入。由于又卷进“只要投身于这一思潮即是日本的新生活”这一令人产生错觉的动荡时流,日本画已是颓然失神,跌入迷茫之渊、这恰似以“废佛弃释”为旗号而片面性地否定传统、否定日本画,象欧美一边倒的明治初期一样,不!可以说比那种狂热的风潮更为强烈。
