Australian physicists are looking back at a research project that was once proposed by S.M. Oliphant, the founder of the National Australian University, more than forty years ago to solve the world energy crisis. Dr. J.L. Huges, a researcher and Professor H. Hora, an internationally renowned theorist in plasma physics, is a member of the Institute of Physical Science. In the early 1930s, S.M. Oliphant worked with the famous nuclear physicist Rutherford at the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge University. Based on their own research, they published a paper in 1933 on the effects of bombarding boron with hydrogen nuclei. Prof. Hora and Dr. Huges said that it is the combination of hydrogen and boron that is the key to obtaining inexhaustible thermonuclear energy in the coming years. They say high power
