The monthly American Review Web site (http://www.imonreview.org) published in January 2005 the inscription “Capitalism and the Environment” by Paul Sweezy in memory of the late The most famous Marxist economist in the United States. This paper argues that the enormous creativity and great destructive power of capitalism are interlinked. Except for the socialist revolution, there is no force capable of stopping the destructiveness of capitalism. This is especially manifested in the destruction of the environment after World War II. The future of socialism can no longer catch up with the material life of capitalism as the goal. This article reflects the new thinking of Svetochy in his later years about capitalism and socialism.
