[World Nuclear News Web Site, June 19, 2014] The Australian government will not move forward with the construction of a national radioactive waste management facility at Muckaty Station after the North Land Commission (NLC) lifted its nomination for the site jobs. The Northern Territory Committee is an elected statutory authority representing the northernmost natives of the Northern Territory in Australia. In 2007, the Commission nominated a 225-hectare site as a candidate for the construction of a national radioactive waste management facility. The 2012 Australian law, as amended, stipulates that sites for radioactive waste management facilities must be voluntarily nominated prior to their selection and be endorsed by the public or community with rights and interests.
