With the emphasis on water pollution, the issue of the relationship between waterborne pathogens and indicator bacteria has drawn renewed attention. There have been several reports on the relationship between fecal coliforms, Streptococcus faecalis or total coliforms and pathogenic bacteria in water recently. The authors studied the quantities of coliforms, streptococci and salmonella in the Saline and Huron Rivers of the US state of Michigan to determine if there was any stable correlation between the indicator bacteria and Salmonella. Coliform bacteria test with “standard test method” described in the book filter method, separation and identification of fecal coliforms by Geldreich and other filter methods, Streptococcus faecalis
