The AUP-3 (M) warhead beats the European BROACH tandem warhead because the USAF believes that while both warheads meet its proposed performance requirements, the Air Force wants to be low cost and available early. After a series of full-scale skid tests at both of the two warheads at Eglin AFB, the Air Force decided to select Loma’s 545 kg kinetic warhead.
