石窟的顶部,是石窟中应用菱形构图最多的区域。克孜尔石窟中的第4窟、第8窟、第13窟、第14窟、第1 7窟、第32窟、第34窟、第38窟、第58窟、第63窟等多个石窟的顶部都由菱形构图组成。在这些石窟中,绝大多数是中心柱石窟,其窟顶都由菱形构图来填充,除中心柱石窟外的其他窟形,虽然占克孜尔石窟的数量不大,但其顶部也分布有菱形构图。中心柱石窟是克孜尔石窟的典型,数量较多,是克孜尔石窟中最具代表性的礼拜窟之一。本文以中心柱石窟来说明菱形构图在窟顶区域的分布:在中心柱石窟中,主室的窟顶和甬道、后室的顶部都分布有大面积的菱形格构图。
