近几年来,对提高新闻队伍素质的问题谈论颇多,对记者、编辑提出这样和那样的要求,这无疑是对的。但是,笔者以为提高新闻队伍素质的关键,首先要抓总编辑素质的提高。俗话说:火车跑得快,全靠车头带。总编辑就是一家报纸的火车头,只有火车头行得正,跑得快,火车才能沿着正确的轨道飞驰向前。总编辑是报纸的组织者、指挥员,肩负着“研究和设计,实施总的编辑方针政策及指导原则,负责领导编辑行政事务,包括组织日常的编辑活动、审稿、审样”的重担。(见(《新闻学简明词典》)可见,对一张报纸来说,总编辑的素质是至关重要的。
