Rewinding is a common phenomenon in academic discourse. As an integral part of the retweet structure, the form of self-reliance has largely become an effective means of author’s identity. In this paper, 120 English-Chinese research papers published in the humanities and natural science journals are used as the corpus. With the aid of Hyland’s (2000) classification of the transitive verbs, the author explores the role of self-referencing in the construction of authorship. The findings are as follows: (1) self-translating mainly builds the identity characteristics of researchers, discourse organizers and view holders in the research papers; (2) compared with natural sciences, the dissertation authors of the humanities even more highlight their view holders (3) Compared with the authors of Chinese dissertations, the authors of English dissertations pay more attention to the use of clear language means to organize texts and build the identity of text organizers. The paper points out that the different characteristics of subject areas and cultural paradigms are the main reasons for the differences.
